Ode on solitude

Ode on solitude
Alexander the Pope (1688-1744)

How happy he, who free from care
The rage of court, and noise of towns;
Contented breathes his native air
In his own ground

Whose herds with milk, whose field with bread,
Whose flocks supply him with attires,
Whose trees in summer yield him shade,
In winter fire.

BLest! Who can unconcern’dly find
Hours, days and years slide swift away
In health of body, peace of mind,
Quiet by day.

Sound sleep by night; study and ease
Together mix’d; sweet recreation
And innocence , which most does please,
With meditation.

Thus  let me live, unheard, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die
Steal from the world, and not a stone
Tell where I lie

La Princessa

La Princessa
By Adelola-Roberts Adeyemi A

Ayanfe Okin, a b’oba j’oruko,
Ademini ev’ry day
Thou did’st blossom like the lilies of the meadow
Right under my eyes,
A joy to gladden every heart,
A fertile plain set for the nourishing of destinies,
A Baobab of shade and shelter,
Though petite, yet in thine eyes there lurk’d unfathomable depth of wisdom,
In thine cry lies my sweetest melody; an unmatch’d symphony,
In thine angelic smiles, burst of sunshine,
In thee did’st I find my long awaited “enchantment”

My find

In my Odyssey
Right 'round yonder corner
There my pleasant long awaited surprise stood
Unexpectedly
was i jostled from the depth of my subconscious
To the reality of the charted course for my tomorrow
Right there stood,
My future,
My Holy grail,
My destiny,
My You.
We rejoice
